EnglishLiteracy is the cornerstone of all learning and is a priority at Hampton Park PS. Each day, classes devote two hours of the timetable specifically to developing the literacy skills of their students. Focus areas are:
Teachers plan for individual learning and teach skills that are required by each student. We are proud of the improvement of our students that is often at a faster rate than that expected. Literacy Support - Reading RecoveryThe Reading Recovery Program is a daily 30 minute, intensive teaching session for individual children in Year 1 to accelerate their reading and writing. Children who meet the selection criteria develop confidence while on the program and this is reflected back in the classroom.
Literacy Support - Closing the GapAt Hampton Park Primary School, all student progress is monitored closely. It is important to realise that children progress at different speeds and some students at times may need target specific additional assistance to progress at expected Statewide Benchmarks. These decisions are made through consultation with parents and professionals to decide what form of intervention will best suit the specific needs of the child.In continuing to provide a quality education, Hampton Park Primary School has a range of experts to assist developing children. These include experienced expert staff in the areas of Literacy Intervention, English as a Second Language (ESL), Reading Recovery, On-site Speech Pathologist, 7 Classroom Assistants trained to deliver the Speech Pathologists Program as well as Literacy Intervention. We believe the establishment of a Literacy and Numeracy starting point for all children is important. By providing this testing for your child it commences the important teacher and parent bond necessary to foster continual success. Each year all Preps and New Students to our school are tested by the Speech Pathologist to ascertain their Language abilities and provide another important starting point for their child’s thorough education at Hampton Park Primary School. Middle Years Literacy SupportStudents from Grades 4- 6 who need additional assistance to meet the expected standards in Reading are able to access support from a teacher trained in the use of a computer based program. This program provides tuition paced to meet the student’s learning needs.Success has been achieved where students are brought closer to the expected grade level, gaining a confidence that translates into other areas of learning. The HumanitiesThe Humanities involves the study of human societies, people and their cultures in the past and in the present.Focus areas are:
The Humanities provide unique ways to understand how and why groups of people have settle where the have, organised their societies, developed means of generating and distributing wealth, developed codes, laws and belief systems and related to other groups of people. Languages Other than English (LOTE)By studying the culture and language of another country, students develop an awareness of cultures beyond Australia and are better able to understand the structure of the English language. At Hampton Park PS, the language taught is Indonesian.MathematicsNumeracy continues to be a school priority. The Early Years Numeracy program is being implemented at Hampton Park Primary School. The school also has two teachers trained in Middle Years Numeracy and is implementing this program in Grades 5 and 6. The five keys areas of numeracy development are:
